Installation Manager

Job Title: Installation Manager
Reporting To: Operations Manager
Date: March 2017
Location: Liverpool
Main purpose of the job: As Installation manager, you will have overall responsibility for planning, management, co-ordination and financial control of installation projects throughout the UK. Projects vary in size and complexity and may multiple large contracts, a number of smaller ones or a combination of both. You will be the main point of contact for stakeholders and their support staff, site installation teams, project warehouse staff, tenants, surveyors and external consultants involved on the projects.
Duties and responsibilities:

The scope of works will include the overall management of solar PV installations, battery storage and associated renewable energy technologies and services. Projects are based throughout the UK and will require regular travel and overnight accommodation to suit the project requirements

  • Plan project from receipt of order.
  • Understand the tender costs, plan all resource to achieve or improve on budget.
  • Identify and establish localised warehousing and logistic hub for materials storage and distribution for the project duration.
  • Establish and supervise the warehouse duties, picking, stock control and reporting procedure.
  • Liaise with and supervise the work of the other professionals involved in the project.
  • Review scheduled solar installation sites to determine feasibility and design requirements. Assess system performance or functionality at the system, subsystem, and component levels.
  • Visit customer sites to determine solar system needs, requirements, or specifications
  • Procure and vet all subcontractors engaged in the project. Agree labour rates and raise instruction. Evaluate subcontractors for quality, cost, and reliability.
  • Plan and resource labour to maintain agreed install rates. Forward plan to ensure resource level suits project demand. Liaise with booking team to avoid duplication.
  • Schedule all materials required for the project to ensure continuity of agreed installs. Set and maintain stock levels with due consideration for cash-flow.
  • Requisition materials and plant in a timely manner to ensure continuity of agreed installs.
  • Ensure that the project milestones are met. Keep daily track of progress and ensure that the project is delivered on time and budget.
  • Provide technical assistance to installers, technicians, or other solar professionals.
  • Identify means to reduce costs, minimize risks, or increase efficiency of solar installation projects
  • Verify and approve all invoices in a diligent and timely manner.
  • Inspect and co-ordinate all site activities, ensuring work is carried out safely, professionally, to specification and in a timely manner. Monitor subcontractor performance.
  • Supervise solar installers, technicians, and subcontractors for solar installation projects to ensure full compliance with safety standards. Check subcontractors RAMS for accuracy,audit safety on site, deliver toolbox talks and maintain records of health and safety activity
  • Deliver regular toolbox talks covering relevant health and safety issues, best practice, company communications and the like.
  • Liaise with tenants and homeowners. Investigate and resolve complaints.
  • Attend internal and external meetings.
  • Ensure your time is planned, managed and recorded.
  • Ensure that the quality standards set by Solgain UK and the client are met and maintained.
  • Ensure that the Company’s Health, Safety and Environmental procedures are met and maintained.
  • Contribute to Solgain company objectives and values.
  • Attend training as required. Maintain your knowledge of industry updates, best practice, changes in legislation etc.
  • Continuously look for improvements to the service and for effective good practice.
  • Undertake any other reasonable task as required by business needs.

Skills:

The Installation Manager should possess the following skills and attributes:

  • 3+ years’ experience in a project management role working in the Solar and renewables sector.
  • Full life-cycle experience of solar projects.
  • Technical and commercial due diligence.
  • I.T. Literacy (MS Office, MS Project, MS Windows )
  • Knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation
  • PV design skills (PVSyst / PVSol)
  • Technical drawing reading skills
  • Full Driving Licence
  • CSCS
  • SMSTS or SSSTS
Experience:

The Installation Manager is expected to demonstrate the following company values:

  • Fully qualified Electrician with a proven background within the PV
  • City & Guilds Electrical Installation 2330 or 2360 Parts 1 & 2
  • City & Guilds 2391 Test & Inspection
  • City & Guilds 2382 17th Edition.
  • City & Guilds 2372/2399 or NICEIC Solar PV would be preferred but not essential
  • Excellent knowledge of wiring regulations and certification.
  • Ability to perform system inspection & testing to BS 7671, commissioning and handover.
  • Good practical knowledge of modules, inverters, DC wiring and monitoring systems.

Solar PV Designer

Job Title: Solar PV Designer
Reporting To: Operations Manager
Date: March 2017
Location: Liverpool
Main purpose of the job: Solgain UK Limited is looking to recruit an experienced, dedicated Solar PV Designer. The ideal candidate will have an electrical background or hold relevant electrical qualifications with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in the designing of both large scale residential schemes and commercial solar PV installations.
Duties and responsibilities:

The duties of the Solar PV Designer include Solar PV design and component procurement lists for the Operations team. These duties include:

  • The role will require the experience to design and take off the required components, producing accurate schedules for purchasing and procurement by the Operations team. Good commercial acumen is required with the ability to cost engineer and compare systems to achieve the optimum solution.
  • Cost models are required to demonstrate options and variations for client approval.A thorough understanding of the principles and application of design parameters together with an accurate  calculation of system performance is essential.
  • The position is office based and focussed on interpreting surveys undertaken by our on site surveyors or interpreting desktop surveys.The workload is varied but the key driver is to achieve the maximum conversion of properties into installs. 
  • You will be familiar with all components, panel, inverter, meter and mounting manufacturers.
  • Your day to day work will be designing PV installations and as such you will be proficient using software including PVsyst, Autocad and PVSol.
  • You will comfortable working alone as well as a team and will be reporting directly to senior management.

  • Experience with battery storage is desirable.

Sub-Contract Installation Teams - Residential Projects (Nationwide)

Job Title: Sub-Contract Installation Teams - Residential Projects (Nationwide)
Reporting To: Operations Manager
Date: March 2017
Location: Current /Future locations N E England, East Anglia, Greater Manchester, Midlands
Main purpose of the job: The role includes the installation and commissioning of solar PV including all electrical connections, routing and associated components, for example, inverters, meters etc.
Duties and responsibilities:
  • Experience of battery storage installations would be advantageous but additional training is available to suitable teams.
  • The work is mainly large scale residential projects, installing onto a mix of existing pitched roofs with concrete tile, slate or plain tile roof coverings. Experience of installing to mixed roof types is essential.
  • Installs are pre-booked into daily time slots and allocated to the install teams on a weekly rota. You will be expected to liaise with your team and site management to ensure installations are carried out to Solgain UK standards.
  • Hours on site are 7.30am – 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, however some flexibility will be required in order to suit project requirements.
Personal Qualities:
  • To communicate effectively with your team and Solgain UK management on a daily basis
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time and in accordance with design docs
  • Ensure all installations are to current industry standards
  • Ensure all operatives are working to approved site specific RAM’s, working safely and efficiently.
  • Respect is shown to all homeowners and tenants when working on their properties.
  • All sign off sheets are completed at the end of each working day clearly detailing what has been completed. Sign off sheets and photos of installs are uploaded at the end of each working day to the Solgain UK database.
  • Any issues on site are reported back to the Installation Manager
  • All materials are collected, loaded and signed out for the specific property from our logistics hubs on a daily basis
  • To maintain a good communication and relationship with project team, residents and general public
  • Ensure Solgain UK installation standards and delivery procedures are adhered to.

Skills:

The Sub-Contract Installation Teams should possess the following skills and attributes:

  • CSCS
  • Electrical - NVQ level 2/ 3
  • Inspection, Testing and Certification C & G 2391/ 2394 &2395
  • PV qualified and 17th Edition
  • SMSTS or SSSTS
Experience:

The Sub-Contract Installation Teams is expected to demonstrate the following company values:

  • Preferably a minimum of 2 years’ experience in managing and installing electrical/ PV installations with teams working under your guidance and control.
  • Experience on PV systems in excess of 250kW (to G59/2 regulations) would be advantageous.
